2023 AGU Meeting

At the 2023 American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco, Xinyuan Wei and Daniel Hayes made a significant impact with their presentations on innovative forest research. They introduced a pioneering project for Maine’s working forests, titled “Building a carbon MRV prototype using a stakeholder-driven, landscape model-data framework.” This initiative aims to enhance sustainable forest management through a comprehensive carbon monitoring system. In addition, they presented “Rethinking the CO2 fertilization effect on forest production: Potential transformations introduced by climate change,” challenging existing notions about CO2’s impact on forest growth under changing climatic conditions. Their research offers new perspectives in forest management and climate change mitigation. Both projects received considerable attention from the scientific community, with attendees praising the innovative approaches and the potential implications for environmental policy and forest management strategies.
